This was one of the most historic Urbex locations in Auckland, obvious and thought we'd always get around to it, (nah mate she'll be right we'll do it one day) took a few years and when I did rock up, exchanged "slaps" with a Tongan and sent packing after we'd trolled the property for good while. They made my canon turn inside out and few extra pieces appeared on the ground, police told us there was nothing they could do, and we where on our way.
Built in 1886 in Grey Lynn, with a Italianate architecture which from the outside is a master piece. Originally as the Costley training institute but later closed in 1908 and the building became a children's home and church institution, now disused and sitting abandoned. Currently owned by the Tongan church who brought the chapel next door in the late 1970's. The building has a vast history of paranormal myths, where there is a tale that 43 children died in a fire, but there is nothing to back this record nor was there a fire at the time of this tale.
There is a facebook group called Save Carlilie House, to try and prevent Carlie from further decay and I know Auckland council and groups would like to do the same in the near future so support them if the opportunity arises I know Urbex NZ will be... Nathan
